Cognac Pierre de Segonzac VS Cafards Sensibles: Where Cognac Meets Independent Rap

Cognac Pierre de Segonzac VS Cafards Sensibles is a distinctive limited edition bringing together two worlds rarely associated with one another: traditional Grande Champagne cognac and independent rap music. Born from a meeting of musical passion, graphic design and family expertise, this limited-edition cognac tells a story that goes far beyond that of a bottle.

Produced by the family-owned Pierre de Segonzac house, this 3-year-old VS is made from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in the Grande Champagne terroir, Cognac's Premier Cru. It is presented in a 70 cl bottle at 40% ABV.

50 bottles are available from Cognac Only: an opportunity to discover an original collaboration between Charentais heritage and contemporary music culture.

Pierre de Segonzac: A Family History Dating Back to 1702

Based in Segonzac, in the heart of Grande Champagne, the Pierre de Segonzac house has perpetuated family expertise passed down through twelve generations. The history of the Ferrand family dates back to 1702, with Jacques Ferrand, who laid the foundations for this long-standing winemaking and distilling tradition.

Today, the estate covers 8.5 hectares of vineyards located in Cognac's Premier Cru. The family oversees every stage of the production process, from growing the vines to distillation and ageing in oak barrels.

This control over the entire production process allows the house to preserve its own identity, built on a deep understanding of the terroir and the passing down of traditional skills.

Grande Champagne: Cognac's Premier Cru

This VS Cognac comes exclusively from Grande Champagne, considered the Premier Cru of the Cognac appellation. Its limestone soils and climatic conditions contribute to the production of eaux-de-vie renowned for their finesse and ageing potential.

The grapes used come from the Ugni Blanc variety, the main grape variety in the appellation. It produces a naturally acidic, low-alcohol white wine that is particularly well suited to traditional Charentais distillation.

The house therefore works with raw materials from its own vineyards, maintaining a close connection between the terroir, vineyard management and the production of its cognacs.

Traditional Charentais Distillation and Carefully Managed Ageing

Pierre de Segonzac carries out its own wine distillation using two traditional Charentais pot stills with capacities of 18 and 25 hectolitres. The eaux-de-vie are distilled on fine lees, following a traditional method that contributes to the development of their aromatic profile.

This VS is aged in 400 to 500-litre Limousin oak barrels. Its ageing process takes place over three years:

  • First two years: ageing in new oak barrels, allowing the spirit to develop its structure and begin interacting with the wood.
  • Third year: transferred to an older barrel to soften the tannic influence of the wood and give the eaux-de-vie greater room to express themselves.

Cafards Sensibles: Where Cognac, Rap and Artistic Creation Meet

The project began with a shared passion for music and a desire to bring different creative worlds together. Pablo Ferrand, from the Pierre de Segonzac house, has long been a fan of rap and electronic music. He also occasionally gets behind the decks as a DJ.

It was in this context that he met Franck Dureau, a friend from Bordeaux and a passionate advocate of American independent rap. Franck invited him to take part in an ambitious project combining music, graphic art and publishing.

The result is a double vinyl record featuring several artists from the French rap scene, including Doc X, Furax Barbarossa, Swift Guad and Le Bavar, accompanied by a bottle of cognac created specifically in connection with the project.

The bottle's visual identity was entrusted to Pierrick Boissard, a graphic designer from Bordeaux, who also created the inner sleeve illustration for the vinyl record. Together, they form a collector's item in which the world of cognac meets independent music.

More than a special edition, Cafards Sensibles is an artistic collaboration. It brings together the expertise of a family-owned Grande Champagne house and an independent music scene, with a bottle whose graphic identity is an integral part of the project.

How Should You Enjoy Cognac VS Cafards Sensibles?

Thanks to its three years of ageing and 40% ABV, this cognac can be enjoyed in several ways, depending on personal preference.

  • Neat: in a tulip-shaped glass, to appreciate its aromas as they gradually develop.
  • On the rocks: for a cooler, more relaxed tasting experience.
  • In a cocktail: as the base for a long drink or a classic cognac-based cocktail.

To fully appreciate its aromas, we recommend serving it at room temperature in a suitable glass and allowing it a few moments to open up.
