The History of Courvoisier House
Founded in 1835 by Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois in Jarnac, Courvoisier House is an iconic institution in the world of cognac. Renowned for meticulous production methods and a commitment to excellence, reflected in every step of cognac making. The House owns vineyards in the Grande Champagne region, known for producing the highest quality eaux-de-vie. This privileged location allows Courvoisier to select the finest grape varieties, contributing to the complexity and aromatic richness of its cognacs. Courvoisier's history is also intertwined with Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Legend has it that Napoleon took several casks of Courvoisier with him into exile on Saint Helena, a pleasure greatly appreciated by English officers on the ship, earning it the nickname "Napoleon's Cognac." Each expression in the Courvoisier range is the result of meticulous blending by the House's master blenders, perpetuating the artisanal tradition and centuries-old heritage.
Introduction to Courvoisier VSOP Cognac
The original Courvoisier VSOP Cognac is a timeless creation crafted by experts, blending different crus, including Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, and Fins Bois, carefully chosen for their aromas. A balanced bottle that celebrates the art of blending, offering a harmonious sensory experience. Courvoisier's Very Superior Old Pale (VSOP) has undergone careful aging for 8 to 12 years in oak barrels from the prestigious Tronçais and Limousin forests. The result of this meticulous craftsmanship, this VSOP blend stands out with its moderately full-bodied character, providing a classic experience of balanced and nuanced richness.
The spirit presents itself with an amber hue at first glance, but once poured, it reveals captivating coppery nuances in the light.
The cognac, once distilled and aged, gives off the scent of ripe peaches. After years in French oak barrels, it develops hazelnut flavors and offers a sweet, caramelized taste of roasted almonds. The complex distillation on lees adds fruity and musky notes, with a fragrant hint of jasmine.
On the palate, a prolonged finish unfolds, featuring delicate notes of roasted almonds, buttery caramel, and stone fruits. This conclusion is marked by a dry finish of pastry spices, adding a subtly enduring touch.
