Presentation of the estate:

The cognac distillery was created by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer in the army of Louis XV. Hennessy cognac is becoming more and more popular in the United States, an independent country for only 18 years.

The Prince of Wales, the future George IV of Great Britain, was a great connoisseur of cognac. He asked Hennessy to create a "very superior old pale" brandy. Since then, the abbreviation VSOP -- Very Superior Old Pale -- has been a reference used by the entire industry. Also, the creation of the appellation XO (eXtra Old) was initiated by Maurice Hennessy. Initially reserved for his family and friends, the XO appellation has become an international reference for cognacs.

The legendary "axe to the point" refers to its founder Richard Hennessy, who became a French citizen after 12 years of service in the French army.

Presentation of the vintage:

First of all, the method of making this cognac is exactly the same as for a VS, VSOP or XO cognac. No less than 35 to 45 eaux-de-vie are used in Hennessy Black, which have been selected by the Cellar Master to make its blend and then aged for at least 8 years in French oak barrels previously used at Hennessy (5 years).

But where this cognac differs the most is in its consumption mode. Indeed, the house of Hennessy really wanted to create a cognac that could be the basis of a cocktail in the same way as vodka, gin or rum.

Hennessy Black is easy to work with in cocktails because it has very floral notes with light touches of citrus, a honeyed taste and fresh fruit aromas.
